Either my time management skills are way off or I am overcommitted. I can't seem to find that "happy place" very often where I am rested, relaxed and fully enjoying myself. Even on the weekends, I am doing schoolwork or housework in between trying to get some "down time." What I need is another day in the week.
I would spend that day doing all the fun activities I don't get to do. I would read (for fun) for at least an hour straight, maybe two. I would watch a couple shows I have on my DVR, and I would relax--not go anywhere except Starbucks or Barnes and Noble. (I know, I live on the edge!)
I would not do any grading or prep for classes. I wouldn't check WebCT or my work e-mail. I might look at Facebook, but not much more (there's too much work I end up doing on the computer).
Then I would make time for a short nap--30-45 min. is all I need. And my husband and I would prepare dinner (I do enjoy cooking if I am not rushed) and have a glass of wine with it. Then we could settle in for a relaxing evening (again no computer work).
It's nice to dream. But now I must return to reality.
You say that. But if there were eight days in a week "The Man" would have us working six.
ReplyDeleteThat would be nice but unfortunately that will always be a dream. I am having the same problem with school and dealing with my kids. What you need to do is set aside a specific time where you will not do any type of work make this your time to relax everyday. Do not let anything get in the way of this time. Treat it like a doctors appointment that can't be rescheduled. You need to make time for you because all work and no play will wear you doing physically, mentally, and emotionally.
ReplyDeleteyea i can relate to this too, I have 2 jobs and school full time, its tiring.
ReplyDeleteThis would be amazing. I am almost in the same position that you are because I hardly ever get down time. I am either at school or work and I find myself doing homework and housework on off days. Thats all I do!! aahh and now I have to plan for a wedding lol
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. I would love an extra day to relax. I have been working, going to school, trying to handle 4 kids under age 7, deal with 2 sick kids, plan a wedding, and on top of it all I just started a new second job. I feel so overwhelmed. I would love to relax. I'm so busy these day that my fiance and I haven't even gone out as a couple in about 4 months. Eeeek! I hope you are able to find some time to relax soon! We all need it sometimes!!!
ReplyDeleteI think it would be good to have a break in between the workweek. Have Wednesday as the extra day off so everyone has two days to really work themselves and a day in between to mellow out and then the weekend to full recharge. THAT would be awesome! All except for Barnes and Nobles, they have to work wed, sat, and sunday. ^_^
ReplyDeleteI don't know whether if I would prefer an 8-day workweek or more hours in a day. I have a lot of stuff to do daily but not a lot of time to do it in. Therefore, I am always saying, "I'll do that tomorrow." Unfortunately, I forget to do the things I put off. Hopefully, in the near future I will be able to effectively manage my time.
ReplyDeleteI feel much the same way. I heard of this Uberman's Sleep Schedule thing but I think it would drive me nuts only sleeping a little over 2hrs a day. Here I will link to it.
